Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

At the Medical Institute of Health Aging, Dr. Kim uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy to focus on promoting your overall health.

During therapy, you’re exposed to air with about three times the pressure of the air you breathe every day. This means your lungs can gather more air than they would breathe normal air.

You sit in a vertical chamber made by Summit to Sea®, which is of benefit because you breathe easier sitting up, rather than laying down. The chamber allows you to breathe the hyperbaric oxygen in deeply so your organs and tissues benefit. The treatment is painless and highly effective.

How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?

Your blood transports oxygen throughout your body. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy optimizes the delivery of oxygen so it reaches all areas of your body that need it. With hyperbaric
oxygen therapy, your body is better able to:

  • Reduce swelling
  • Kill harmful bacteria
  • Boost immunity
  • Produce new blood vessels
  • Maximize white blood cell function

Furthermore, if you have concerns about the signs of aging, such as diminished energy, poor sleep, and skin wrinkling, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help. Dr. Kim may recommend it to greatly reduce visible wrinkles so you look, and feel, younger.

How often should I undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Dr. Kim uses his expertise to develop an appropriate plan for you given your wellness goals. Discuss your wellness concerns and desired results with him so he can accurately guide you in prescribing hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

You may go in for hyperbaric oxygen therapy on a continuous basis. Your sessions may be scheduled weekly, several times a week, or more intermittently — such as once per month. The chamber is monitored during your session and you can see outside of the chamber as well, so you feel safe and secure. During your session, you can watch movies, listen to music, or just relax.
